Día de todos los Santos - Varsovia , Polonia

(English version below)

All Saints Day

Today is November 1st, All Saint's Day. I have had meetings all day but I interrupt and take the opportunity to experiment how Warsaw, Poland, celebrates this day. It is, in many ways, similar to Spain.

We arrive to the cemetery. It is not the main one in Warsaw since there are lots of people going to the main one. But still, the amount of streets and the length of them surprises me from the first moment. Tombs are, in their majority, filled with beautiful flower centers and candles, lots of candles. Beautiful and modern candles inside their candle holders. The view is almost beautiful if I avoid thinking of what all this means... a real worship to the dead. Step by step I leave aside tomb after tomb dedicated of those who were one day. Some tombs even venerate people that do not even have names, these are tombs in memory of those who desappearedin the war and were never seen again. Here and there, people, alone or with their families, standing or sitting, laying flowers or litting candles, some make the sign of the cross, others pray.

And I ask myself , what is all this for? Like my aunty well said a while ago... "I like cioming to the cemetery, here we all become the same." Whatever we were, now we are dust. Like my friend who walks with me says "even those who grieve are the same at the cemetery". All this produces mix feelings... a little bit of repulsion, a bit of anger, a bit of confusion, even, a bit of compassion.

I remember, once again, that in Christ all things are very different. Jesus conqured death when he died at the cross for us. Also the cross represents the hope of an eternal life for all those who believe. The candles are a very pale reflection in contrast with the true light that came to the world and that takes us out of darkness into his wonderful light.

As I walk passing one tomb after the other, I also think... and what of the day that it will be my turn? how will I be remembered? Lots to think about...

Temuco, Chile

(English vesion below)

Today I had the privilege to share a delicous meal with the Student Exec of the GBU Temuco. It was great to hear their dreams, share possible ways to look forward, hear what they are passionate about, encourage them in their mission. In the evening I had the privilege to share in their General meeting. I think I will never grow tired of encouraging students to be obedient to be witnesses in their universities. With this I end my commitments with the different Latin American movements with whom I have had the privilege to serve for the past few weeks in this first experience. I have so much more to share.... and I will in due time. Now I need to process and assimilate this all and I thank God for a few days holidays that will start as soon as I close the computer.
The faces of around 150 to whom I have had the privilege to share these days come with me.... They are, each one of them, very special people that God has chosen to be witnesses in the university where God has placed them. I urge you to keep praying that the Word will remain in their hearts and that they will be people of action. And, like the disciples, be able to revolutionize their times. With a huge gratitude for your support....I am very much aware that you have been key in all this trip.

SENACAP GBUCh Chile - Un buen final a una gran experiencia

(English version below)

Gloria sean dadas a Dios.

My last commitment has come to an end. It was the SENACAP, National Training Seminar that gathered around 35 students from different parts of the country, center and south. They were mostly leaders but also a good number of students that came for the first time.
The GBUCh staff team.
We had times of fun, laughter (I so much laghed!), games and sharing. But above all I had the privilege to see how much the Word was penetrating the hearts of students.
We were able to celebrate "Fiestas Patrias" (National holidays). Colour, dancing, celebration filled us with joy.
Ob the last day we went up the hill to experience a bit of what the disciples might have felt when they went up to the mountain to meet with the Lord that was going to entrust them the Great Commission. We spent some time thinking, we prayed, we sang. We finished with a time where students could lay in the middle a piece of paper where they wrote their own version of the Great Commission and a stone as a sign of their commitment to make disciples wherever God sent them. It was very memorable.
I asked the students to be willing to receive from the Lord and to learn like sponges. They did. Glory be to God!

EZONO - Encuentro Nacional Norte en Arica

(English version below)

EZONO - National Gathering North in Arica

It is already a week that we were in full swing with the National Gathering North in Arica. This is a very important event in the life of GBU Chile because, due to distances, it is very difficult for students in the North to gather with other National events. Chile has 4000 km from North to South! It was not a large group (12 students) but students committed with their groups and coming from different cities: Antofasta, Iquique, Arica and also three students from Peru (Tacna y Arequipa).

We enjoyed God´s provision in many ways. We were able to almost be the first guests in a newly opened center for sports people. They gave us a very very special price. The studentes were responsible for menus and cooking. Integral mission!

Students received the Word and committed themselves to be real disciples of Jesus and to reach out to their mates for Jesus.

I did my trio from Arequipa to Arica by car. When I arrived to Arica the landscape had not changed and I was told it will not change for many more miles down south: the desert! I have to confess that I was fascinated and scared at the same time. One of the staffworkers who was with us was born in the North, the desert, but is now living in Santiago. She told me with emotion: "In the desert all is dead... the only thing alive is you". What a joy to know that Christian students are alive twice and that they can bring hope to this Chilean area that is dead because of the desert and is dead spiritually. Tomorrow I am going to share on Philip and the Eunuch. Philip was willing and obedient to leave a successful ministry and go down on the road to Gaza. Please pray for students to be faithful disciples in the desert like Philip. Pray also for the GBU Chile leaders that they may have wisdom to know how to connect this region better to the rest of the country. Pray that the Lord may send more Philips to this so much needed region.

(English version below)

My travelling companions...
Since I left Oxford many have been my travelling companions on top of the many students and staff I have met at the conferences. These are also an important part of my Latinamerican experience. With some I have been able to speak more, with some less. But these are unique and precious individuals: María from Argentina; María and Miriam from Spain; Nancy from Venezuela; Pedro from Pamplona; Luis from Teruel; Ana from Lima; the German man; Silvia from Ecuador; Martina from Sweden living in Australia; a couple from Madrid; Claudia and her husband from Lima; Amelia from Lima; the tourist guides; Rubén from Tacna; and many more for which I can only remember their faces. Faces that are only faces for me and yet they have a name, they are somebody and God loves them.
It has made me think of life and walking in life and all those who walk with us. All these companions are part of my walk in life. I thank God for each one of them.
