Dear friends
Over the next week, more than 600 students, staff, board members and special guests will be travelling to Krakow, Poland, for the IFES World Assembly 2011 (26 July - 3 August). All together they will represent nearly 150 countries and something of the diversity of the IFES Fellowship. Some will come from areas of conflict and others from relative peace and stability. Some will come from lands of wealth and others from nations struggling with poverty. Some are from countries open to the gospel and some from countries where there is little freedom to proclaim the good news. Each will be able to tell of God's faithfulness as they have sought to serve him in their particular context.
As participants have prepared to travel, some have stories to tell of how their trust in God has been tested. Many have to travel great distances to apply for visas, and some, especially our brothers and sisters in Francophone Africa, have not been successful in gaining permission to travel.
Camille Yabi, General Secretary of GBEEB Benin, writes to us of how he and others spent a week in Ghana, only to be denied a visa: ‘Thank you for praying for us as we returned home. We’re trying to understand what God’s message to us is in this situation. We continue to pray to our heavenly father, and we wait for his help.’
We also feel the loss deeply; our Fellowship will not be complete without these brothers and sisters. Yet we trust that God will use these circumstances to continue his work to conform each of us to the image of Christ. Please pray for all those who had wanted to attend World Assembly and for various reasons cannot – that God will comfort them in their disappointment.
For all who cannot be at World Assembly there will be a social stream to follow online – regular posts by various people using a variety of social media. Resources from the event, including audio recordings of many of the talks, will be also be made available on the website.
Please pray for safe travels for all the participants, many of whom are facing long journeys. Pray too for all the speakers, that God will give them wisdom as they make final preparations, and for all who are listening, that we might have open hearts and a willingness to grow and change.
Finally, give thanks with us for this wonderful opportunity to come together to praise God for what he has done in and through IFES student ministry over the years, and to plan together for the future.

Queridos amigos A lo largo de la semana que viene, más de 600 estudiantes, obreros, miembros del comité e invitados especiales viajarán hasta Cracovia, Polonia, para la Asamblea Mundial del IFES de 2011 (26 de julio a 3 de agosto). Todos ellos representarán a cerca de 150 países y son una muestra de la diversidad de la Comunidad IFES. Algunos procederán de lugares conflictivos mientras que otros serán de lugares con una paz y estabilidad relativas. Algunos llegarán desde tierras ricas, mientras que otros vendrán de naciones que luchan contra la pobreza. Algunos vendrán de países abiertos al Evangelio y otros procederán de lugares donde hay muy poca libertad para proclamar las buenas noticias. Cada uno podrá hablar de la fidelidad de Dios cuando han buscado servirle en su contexto personal.
Según se han ido preparando los participantes, nos han ido contando historias acerca de cómo su fe en Dios se ha visto probada. Muchos han tenido que recorrer grandes distancias para obtener sus visados, y otros, especialmente nuestros hermanos y hermanas de África francófona, no han logrado obtener los permisos necesarios para viajar. Camille Yabi, Secretario General de GBEEB Benín, nos escribe acerca de cómo él y los demás se quedaron una semana en Ghana solo para que, al final, les denegaran el visado: “Gracias por orar por nosotros cuando volvíamos a casa. Estamos intentando comprender el mensaje que Dios tiene para nosotros en medio de esta situación. Seguimos orando a nuestro Padre celestial, mientras esperamos su ayuda”. Sentimos profundamente esta pérdida; nuestra Comunidad no puede estar completa sin estos hermanos y hermanas. Confiamos que Dios usará estas circunstancias para seguir su obra, conformando a cada uno de ellos a la imagen de Cristo. Por favor, oren por todos aquéllos que querían asistir a la Asamblea Mundial pero que no pueden por diversas razones, para que Dios les consuele en su desilusión. Para todos aquéllos que no puedan estar en la Asamblea Mundial, se habilitará el streaming de video on-line, con contribuciones regulares de gente usando una variedad de medios sociales. También estarán disponibles recursos del eventos, como grabaciones de audio de las charlas en el sitio web. Por favor, oren para que los participantes tengan viajes seguros, ya que muchos de ellos tienen un largo viaje por delante. Oren también por todos los ponentes, que Dios les dé sabiduría ahora que están ultimando los preparativos finales, y por los que le van a escuchar, para que tengan unos corazones abiertos y una disposición para crecer y cambiar. Por último, demos gracias por esta maravillosa oportunidad de unirnos y alabar a Dios juntos, agradeciéndole lo que ha hecho a través del ministerio estudiantil del IFES a lo largo de los años y mientras planeamos juntos para el futuro.
