Dear friends

On Wednesday morning, most of the 600+ elated but tired participants at World Assembly started to travel home. Some have relatively short journeys; some have many hours ahead of them during which they can reflect on their time in Poland.

So much to think about...

Ramez Atallah, outgoing President of IFES, issued an interesting and somewhat surprising challenge to student leaders, who he thinks are sometimes overly focussed on using their gifts. 'The successful are usually task- rather than gift-orientated,' he said. 'Focus on the task that God is calling you to - he will enable you to apply the gifts he has given you to that task he is calling you to.'

Femi Adeleye, Associate General Secretary for Partnership and Collaboration, reminded us that our ministry must always lead to the cross, a path of suffering. 'The Cross is inescapable, essential, relevant and powerful... We have all been called to follow the Lord Jesus. If he is to be Lord then there can be no compromise in our commitment to the cross.'

Marilyn Stewart, of InterVarsity USA and who pioneered IFES work in Brazil, shared deeply about her own struggles as she led us in a meditation on Psalm 145. 'I was a servant of God, but not a daughter... slowly I came to know, in the deep places of my being, God's grace and compassion.' She encouraged us to join 'the God hunt' every day – '...as we watch for God at work and remember what he has done, our faith is deepened.'

Give thanks with us for the wonderful opportunities we have had here at World Assembly: opportunities to learn from and support one another, to be challenged by the wisdom of the speakers and, above all, to hear what God is saying to us as individuals and as a Fellowship.

Please pray for each participant as they return home, that God will keep them safe. Pray too that we will not forget what we have learned, but that the lessons may take deep root in our hearts and result in changed lives. Pray that each person will be diligent to pass on to others – their student groups, their boards, other staff members – what God has taught us during our week together.

Queridos amigos El miércoles por la mañana, la mayoría de los más de 600 eufóricos y cansados participantes de la Asamblea Mundial, emprendieron sus viajes de regreso. Algunos tienen un camino relativamente corto, mientras que a otros les esperan muchas horas por delante durante las cuales pueden reflexionar acerca de su tiempo en Polonia. Hay tanto en lo que pensar... Ramez Atallah, Presidente saliente del IFES lanzó un reto interesante y sorprendente a los líderes estudiantiles, quienes cree que suelen están demasiado enfrascados en usar sus propios dones. "Los exitosos son aquéllos centrados en las tareas y no en los dones", dijo. "Céntrense en la tarea que Dios les está llamando a hacer y Él les capacitará para que apliquen los dones que les ha dado para realizar aquello para lo que han sido llamados". Femi Adeleye, Secretaria General Adjunta para la Sociedad y Colaboración, nos recordó que nuestro ministerio siempre debe señalar a la cruz, un camino de sufrimiento. "La Cruz es inexorable, relevante y poderosa... Todos hemos sido llamados a seguir al Señor Jesús. Si Él va a ser el Señor, no puede haber condición alguna para nuestro compromiso con la cruz." Marilyn Stewart, de InterVarsity USA, pionera del trabajo del IFES en Brasil, compartió con profunda sinceridad sus propias luchas cuando nos dirigió en una meditación acerca del Salmo 145. "Era una sierva de Dios, pero no una hija... lentamente llegué a comprender, en los lugares más recónditos de mi ser, la gracia y la compasión de Dios". Nos animó a unirnos en la "búsqueda de Dios" todos los días– "...cuando observamos a Dios obrando y recordamos lo que ha hecho, nuestra fe se vuelve más profunda". Demos gracias por las maravillosas oportunidades que hemos tenido en la Asamblea Mundial: oportunidades de las que aprender y para apoyarnos unos a otros; oportunidades para vernos retados por la sabiduría de los ponentes y, sobre todo, para oír lo que Dios nos está diciendo como individuos y como Comunidad. Por favor, oren por cada participante según se dirigen a sus casas, que Dios les mantenga a salvo. Oren también para que no olvidemos lo que hemos aprendido, sino que las lecciones se arraiguen profundamente en nuestros corazones y se transformen en vidas cambiadas. Oren para que cada persona sea diligente y comparta con otros - sus grupos estudiantiles, sus juntas, otros obreros - lo que Dios nos ha enseñado durante esta semana que hemos pasado juntos. ¡Gracias por orar por la Asamblea Mundial! ¡Dios ha respondido a nuestras oraciones de formas maravillosas!
