Impacto EFEC 2010 - Impact EFEC 2010

Siempre es mejor escuchar a los propios estudiantes hablar del impacto de un evento. Así que aun y a pesar de ser una grabación pobre (todavía estoy tratando de entender como funciona mi cámara). ¡Disfrutad! Pero sobretodo... ¡dad gracias a Dios por lo que ha hecho en sus vidas! ¡A Él sea la gloria!

It is always best to listen directly from students how an event like this has impacted their lives. Even though the recording is not very good (still trying to figure out the camera!) I hope you can enjoy and thank God for what he has done in their lives. To Him be the glory!

Hati en espera - Haiti on hold

Varias cosas han hecho que mi viaje a Haiti esta ahora mismo en espera. Sigo con la intencion de ir pero vamos a ver. Por favor orar por sabiduria para saber si debo realmente emprender este viaje, por proteccion si voy y por fuerzas para dar. Gracias a todos y un fuerte abrazo.

Several things have put on hold my trip to Haiti. I am still aiming to go but we will have to see. Please do pray for wisdom in the decision, for protection as I go and strength to give. Thanks and much love to all.

La semilla esta plantada - The seed is planted

Dicen que en la vida hay que plantar un arbol, escribir un libro y tener un hijo. Ya plante el arbol! Quizas el hecho de que plantara varios me exime del resto... En un tiempo habran varios arboles tamarindos plantados por el grupo de EFEC.

They say that in life you have to plant a tree, write a book and have a child. I have planted a tree! In fact I have planted several... maybe that will excuse me from the rest... In a little while there will be lots of tamarind trees planted by the EFEC group.

Que hermosa ilustracion de lo que Dios me ha permitido hacer en estas semanas. Cuantas gracias le doy de haberme permitido plantar semillas, semillas, que a su tiempo traeran buen fruto. De hecho, ya lo hacen... es hermosa la obra de Dios en todos estos estudiantes.

What a beautiful ilustration of what God has allowed me to do these weeks. How many thanks I give him to have given me the privilege and gift to plant some seeds in these lives, seeds, that will bear fruit in their time. Well, they are already bearing fruit... the work of God in the lives of these students is beautiful.

EFEC 2010 - Republica Dominicana

La Republica Dominicana es muy diferente en tantos aspectos! Estoy disfrutando de tomar jugos de fruta fresca, algunos de frutas que no conocia.

Dominican Republic is so different in many ways! I am enjoying juices from fresh fruit, some of it I never hear of.

El transporte en este pais es otra cosa... la idea es cuanto mas quepan mejor. Los taxis no salen si no tienen a cuatro personas detras y dos delante, sin contar el conductor! Aqui una muestra de cuantos pueden entrar en una wawa, y eso que la foto no muestra los que estamos delante!

Transportation is another story in this country... the idea is to fit the maximum in the car. Taxis won't leave if they do not have four people in the back and two in the front, without counting the driver! This is a photo of the bus that took us to the university so you can see how many can fit, and you cannot see the front!

Es muy insusual que tenga la oportunidad de enseñar sobre evangelizacion a la vez que lo ponemos en practica inmediatamente. Creo que esto ha sido uno de los fuertes de este encuentro. La primera semana estuvimos en Santiago. Yo impartia sesiones por la mañana y por la tarde ibamos a la universidad a hablar a las personas de Jesus. Estuvimos en 4 de ellas. He de deciros que en 20 años que he estoy en la obra estudiantil no habia vivido nada parecido. Cuan diferente es Europa! La gente aqui te permite hablar, estan en sus mayoria dispuestos, conocen de la Biblia. Tuvimos el regalo de ver a varios rendir sus vidas a Jesus. Gloria a El.

It is very rare that I have the opportunity to teach on evangelism at the same time as we practice it together. I think this was one of the strengths of this event. The first week we were in Santiago. I gave sessions in the morning and then we went to the university in the afternoons to talk to students about Jesus. We went to four of them. I have to tell you that in 20 years of work among students I had not experience so much openeness and respect. How different from Europe! People allowed you to speak, were mostly willing to talk and listen, they know about God and the Bible. We had the gift of seeing several students giving their lives to Jesus. Praise Him!

Y tambien tuvimos tiempo de evaluar. Para mi fue muy especial poder contrastar y tambien dessafiar a los chicos a pensar algo diferente: Que entendemos por evangelizar? Como podemos escuchar mejor a las personas? Como hacer preguntas? Como usar palabras que no reflejen jerga evangelica? Como ser contraculturales? Fue hermoso ver como los estudiantes recibian todo esto y ponian en practica al dia siguiente con mejor resultados!

We also had some time to evaluate. It was very special to me to be able to contrast and challenge students to think a bit different: What is evangelism? How can we listen to people better? How do we ask questions? How do we use words that are less churchy? How do we go against the culture? It was so beautiful to see them receive and put in practice as we went out again with better results!

Tuvimos muchos momentos de compartir, a solas, en grupo, por delegaciones. Tambien tiempo para confesar delante de Dios nuestra debilidad y falta de tomar las oportunidades que el nos da de compartir de Jesus. Tuvimos tiempo para orar por nuestros compañeros, nosotros y nuestros movimientos.

We had lots of time to share, alone, in group, in delegations. We also had time to confess before God our weekness and lack of taking opportunities that he gives us to share about Jesus. We had time to pray for our friends, for ourselves for our national movements.

La segunda semana nos dirijimos a Bonao, un hermosisimo lugar en las montañas en donde tuvimos la oportunidad de vivir tiempos mas recogidos y donde Dios hablo a nuestros corazones de una forma poderosa.

Fue hermoso ver a los estudiantes compartir algo de sus culturas, tradiciones, desafios, y necesidades de oracion. Reimos y lloramos juntos.

The second week we went to Bonao, a beautiful place in the mountains where we had the opportunity to live times more intimate with God and one another. God spoke directly to our hearts in a powerful way.

It was great to see students share about their culture, traditions, challenges and prayer needs. We laughed and cried together.

Venezuela

Orando por Republica Dominicana

Ya habia oido de la alegria, la musica, el baile de estos paises Caribeños. Lo que no sabia era todo lo que hay detras de tantos de los estudiantes, vidas que han sido destrozadas por abuso de toda clase, familias mas que disfuncionales, rechazo, descuido, dificultad economica, por nombrar solo unas pocas cosas. Mi corazon se desgarraba un poquito mas a cada vez que escuchaba una y otra historia. Ya podeis imaginar entonces el significado de ver a estos chicos alabar y danzar al Señor. Si algo me ha demostrado que Dios existe en estas semanas ha sido la vida de estos estudiantes transformada por el Espiritu. La gloria sea siempra para Dios.

I had heard of the Caribbean reputation of joy, music and dancing. What I had not heard was all that there is behind the live of many of their students. Lives that have been destroyed and damaged through abuse of all sorts, disfunctional families, rejection, carelesleness, financial difficutlies, to name just a few things. A bit of my heart was ripped every time I heard one story after another. You can imagine then the significance to see these kids praising and dancing before the Lord. If something has demonstrated me that God exists these weeks is the life of these students transformed by the Spirit. The glory be to God for ever.

Fue lindo tambien poder compartir un tiempo con los obreros y voluntarios sobre temas relacionados con la obreria: tiempo, prioridades, formacion, etc. Hay mucha necesidad en este sentido y fue muy bueno poner mi granito de arena.

It was great to be able to share some time with staff and volunteers as well with themes related to time, priorities, training, etc. There is a lot of need in this area and it was great to be able to contribute in that way.

Doy tantisimas gracias a Dios por este maravilloso grupo de estudiantes y obreros representantes de Venezuela, Puerto Rico y Republica Dominicana (los Cubanos tristemente no pudieron venir). Doy gracias por su sencillez y autentico y apasionado amor a Dios que tienen. Su confianza en El a pesar y de donde les tuvo que sacar el Señor. Por favor orad por ellos, para que Dios les ayude a ser Piedras Vivas alli donde les ha puesto aun y a pesar de las circunstancias. Gracias!

I give so much thanks to God for this wonderful group of students and workers representing Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic (sadly the Cubans could not make it). I thank God for their simple and authentic love towards God. Their trust in Him despite where God had to take them from. Please do pray for them, so that the Lord may help them to be Living Stones where they are despite circumstances. Thanks!

Habria mucho, mucho, mucho mas que decir... pero con esto podreis dar las gracias a Dios conmigo!

Estudiantes cambiados-Students changed - ENFOL'10

Entre muchas otras cosas pude compartir en un grupo pequeño durante el ENFOL 2010 en Costa Rica. Esto son mis compañeros, el impacto de la conferencia en sus vidas y motivos de oracion. Orad por ellos!

Among many other things I was able to share with a small group during my time at ENFOL 2010 in Costa Rica. These are my mates, the impact of the conference in their lives and a prayer request. Do pray for them!

Empezo el EFEC / EFEC has started

Empezo! It started!

Por favor orad! Esta semana estamos en Santiago. Nos estamos quedando todos (unos 40 participantes de Republica Dominicana, Puerto Rico y Venezuela) en casa de diferentes hermanos de varias iglesias. Estamos juntos por la manyana. Voy a impartir 4 sesiones basadas en el libro de Daniel (empece hoy). Martes, miercoles y jueves salimos ademas a varias universidades de Santiago para compartir el Evangelio. Orad por corazones abiertos y dispuestos y por nosotros para que seamos valientes. Es semana de salvacion para Santiago! El viernes saldremos al campamento hasta el final del encuentro el dia 4 de Agosto.

Please do pray! We are spending this week in Santiago. We are all (around 35 participants from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela) being hosted by different familes from different churches. We are together in the morning. I am leading the 4 mornings (started today) based on the book of Daniel. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be out at the different universities to share the Gospel. Please do pray for open hearts and willing hearts and for us to be bold. This week is week of salvation for Santiago. Friday we will move to a campsite until the end of the gathering August 4th.

ENFOL 2010 - America Central, Mexico y Panama

He tenido un tiempo magnifico con los 150 estudiantes y obreros provinientes de Centro America, Mexico y Panama.

Tuve el privilegio de impartir dos tardes a todo el grupo sobre evangelizacion basandonos en el ejemplo de Daniel y sus amigos. Los estudiantes y obreros estaban dispuestos, hambrientos, y fue una delicia compartir con ellos.

I have had a marvellous time with the 150 students and staff coming from Central America, Mexico and Panama.

I had the privilege to give two afternoon sessions on evangelism based on the example of Daniel and his friends. Students and staff were ready, hungry and it was a delight to share with them.

Fue muy emocionante verles orar por sus companyeros en la universidad.

It was very moving to see them pray for their friends on campus.

Tuve el privilegio de participar en un grupo pequenyo con estudiantes de Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama y Guatemala (pronto un video!). Fue buenismo masticar juntos los desafios de la Exposicion Biblica.

I had the privilege to participate in a small group with students from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and Guatemala. It was great to chew together the challenges offered in the Bible teaching.

Me entrevistaron y pude compartir mas sobre la maravillosa familia de IFES. Los estudiantes oraron por Espanya y varios se interessaron por ir a Europa como misioneros!

I was interviewed and was able to share about the great IFES family. Students prayed for Europe and quite a few showed intereset in Europe to go as missionaries!

Tuve ademas un hermoso tiempo con un reducido grupo de estudiantes para trabajar el tema de el Estudio Biblico Evangelistico. Creo que todos retomamos pasion por la Palabra y la creencia de que Dios toca vidas a traves de ella! Nos comprometimos todos a iniciar estudios biblicos evangelisticos en las proximas semanas.

I also had a wonderful time with a reduced group of students to work on the theme of Evangelistic Bible Studies. I think we all regained passion for the Word and the belief that God touches lives through it! We all committed to start Evangelistic Bible Studies in the next few weeks.

Me toco profundamente ver la presentacion de algunos paises representados. Me emocionaron ambos, la belleza de sus musicas y colores y a la vez escuchar de los inmensos desafios que tienen estos estudiantes con temas de corrupcion, violencia y terror.

I was profoundly touched with the exhibitions of some of the countries represented. I was both touched by the beauty of their colors and musics but alo to hear their inmense challenges that these students face in terms of corruption, violence and terror.

Dios siempre nos regala sorpresas... fue un gozo reencontrarme con Ruth Maria (hija de Rodolfo y Sary Rodas - Guatemala - que eran obreros conmigo en Espanya. Ruth Maria era entonces una ninya... Quien hubiese pensado que esta ninya entonces era tambien impactada. Doy gracias a Dios que pone su mano aun sobre los ninyos y los transforma en personas que les aman y les sirven.

God always gives us great gifts... it was such a joy to meet Ruth Maria again (daughter of Rodolfo and Sary Rodas who were on staff with me in Spain). She was then a child... Who would have thought that this child will also be impacted. I thank God that he has his hand on children and transforms them into people that love Him and serve Him.

Habria mucho mas que contar... pero ahora estoy en el EFEC y con poco tiempo y medios. Gracias a Dios por un magnifico tiempo. Por ademas todas las conversaciones que tuve con muchos estudiantes y obreros. Por todo lo que esta haciendo.

Los estudiantes y obreros del ENFOL todavia tienen una semana de encuentro (terminando el dia 29). Orad que nada caiga en saco roto y que Dios transforme de tal manera a cada uno de ellos que vulevan a sus casas y sean reales agentes de transformacion para vidas y sociedades en sus paises. Que puedan ser piedras vivas.

There will be much more to tell but I am already at the EFEC and there is little time and means. Thank God with me for a marvellous time. For all the conversations I had with students and staff. For all He is doing.

Students and staff at the ENFOL are still gathering for one more week (they finish on the 29th). Pray that nothing will be lost and that God will transform them in such a way that all of them will become, as they return home, agents of transformation for lives and societies in each of their countries.
